The right fonts aren't always as easy to choose as one might think. I am challenged by this decision on each project.  I'm looking forward to taking typography to gain better insight on how to use certain fonts and make the message strong.

This site offers free fonts:

Useless Process from another perspective.  This step-by-step guide teaches its reader how to conduct useless meetings.

How to hold useless meetings: a step-by-step guide

Boring meetings seem to be part of working life.

And they're are more than just a waste of sandwiches, lukewarm fruit juice and filtered coffee that tastes like water (I know, don't criticise the coffee, you'll be old and weak one day yourself).

When they're deathly dull, meetings can be the biggest time-wasters out.

That's what caught my eye when I came across this guide, The art of holding useless meetings.

How to become a five-star time-wasting manager? According to this piece, all you need to do is stuff like start late, call meetings that have no real purpose, never have an agenda, never set an ending time, refuse to make any decisions, talk about how the organisation needs to have better meetings and always call another meeting.

Simple really. No wonder there are so many bad meetings.

And how do we make better meetings? There are some pretty simple rules:

Know why you are having a meeting (yes, it sounds obvious but think about it: how many meetings are held only because they're "always" held that day and time?); before you call one, ask yourself whether a meeting is the most effective way to get things done; know what you want from the meeting; use an agenda, and design it around questions like what needs to happen and in what order; stick to the agenda and choose an appropriate venue. Oh yeah, try to have it before lunch.

Any other tips? How many boring meetings go on at your workplace? And how do you deal with it? What are some of the most boring meetings you've been to?

for project 6, i'm considering designing a booklet that gives step-by-step instructions for making an elegant evening bag out of a placemat.  sure, there are several ways to make purses out of all kinds of things, including placemats, but i haven't found a site or a book that gives instructions for making Elegant Evening Bags out of a placemats.   these bags will be unique in that the individuals making them can customize them with decorative trims, ribbons, flowers, buttons, chains, and other embellishments. this booklet will teach the average person how to make a boutique-style purse with a placemat.

i don't believe we're really working on the last project for Words & Images.   i feel like jumping, yelling, running, and laughing because i'm so glad to be at this point.

i enjoyed the class for a lot of reasons:

  • challenging
  • informative
  • cool classmates and instructors
  • fun
  • etc...
i'm  also glad its ending for many reasons:
  • i get my Saturdays back
  • no more nightmares about critiques
  • no more going to bed at 2 or 3 a.m. (at least for a month)
  • time to catch up on movies
  • time to hang out with my family

how to paint abstract art

http://www.art-is-fun.com/how-to-paint-abstract-art.html

This web page gives a step-by-step process for making abstract art paintings.  I think this is a good example of process because it addresses each step in order, and by layers.  To complete the painting and get the desired look, the artist must follow the instructions in the order they're given.  Each step (layer) prepares the canvas for the next step (layer).  I tried this project using color paper (different colors) on a plain white canvas.  I started with a sketched outline of a saxophone and glued the torn pieces of paper over the sketched area.  Beautiful Result.

lately i find myself paying more attention to the product's story when I purchase something.  it's always easier to believe something when there's a story of its effectiveness attached to it.  since taking this class i'm somewhat disappointed if a product doesn't have a short story, especially if I don't know much about the item(s).
